The carol service by candlelight is a very popular event in the life of the town and is attended by the Mayor with representative readers from organisations and schools. As well as the traditional Bible Readings, there are congregational carols and carols for choir. This year it will be 200 years since the carol “Silent Night” was first sung on December 24th. Other musical items include: The Matin Responsory – Palestrina, There is no rose – Graham Ellis, Candlelight Carol – John Rutter, Jesus, Jesus rest your head – arr. Dinham, Three Kings – Peter Cornelius as well as two lively recently published carols: an arrangements of the Sussex Carol by Ian Crawford and Sans Day Carol by Pete Churchill. Wine and Mince Pies are served following the carol service and all are very welcome to attaned.
