Welcome to the Keswick St John Church website.
Our Church can be seen for miles around, from the top of Catbells and down the beautiful Borrowdale valley. It is set in a prominent position within the town of Keswick and is also distinctive with its atypical pink sandstone and spire. For directions and a map click here.
As the Anglican Church which serves most of this Lakeland town we try to be there for everyone. Our main service each Sunday is our Sung Eucharist where you will be made welcome as visitors or if you have come to live here. We have a good choral tradition and one of the best organs and organists in the county. People tell us that we are a ‘friendly’ church and our congregation is outward looking and open. We immensely value the people who come here some from very far flung places, as well as those much closer to hand. Whilst being a church characterised by the celebration of Holy Communion we also hold many special services for the town and place a great emphasis on preaching. Click for Services page.
You are very welcome to visit our church whether for quiet prayer during the week (you can light a candle for a loved one) or for a weekday or Sunday service. You may also be interested in one of our many concerts as the church is a sought after venue due to its excellent acoustics. Click for Music page.
A church with a spire though, at the end of the day, points to another reality; set as we are amidst such worldly beauty we cannot lose sight of our Creator, and our praise here ascends beyond the hills to the heavenly places. We hope and pray more than anything that some part of that heavenly love will fill your life when you visit us. Please pray for us too and our continuing mission here.
Canon Stephen Pye
Vicar of Keswick St. John.
